The Magic of "Giving Big"
and some final thoughts on "Think & Grow Rich"
JOSH HOLLADAY
May 1, 2024 | Issue #24 | Read Online
Dear readers,
Listen...last week was life changing, and I HAVE to share it with you.
I know, I'm guilty. I admit it. Those plans I alluded to last week for this week's issue...
...totally out the window.
But, listen to this...
I attended THREE business networking events. And, the task of sharing the details now supersedes my original plan to commentate on our previous week's work: Think & Grow Rich. (though, I'll provide a summary of thoughts near the end of this issue.)
So, Reader, you onboard?
You good for some juicier content?
I mean. Who wouldn't be, right?!
I believe you will like what I've got to share with you.
It may change your life, like it has mine.
Let's go.
Just lean into it.
Much love,
--Josh
P.S. For my new friends whom I met last week at various events, I've added you to my subscriber list and invite you to read 2-3 issues before deciding to unsubscribe, which is okay too.
YOU DO YOU.
(Each one of you meant a lot to me for reasons described below.)

Preface: At The Heart Of OneLife
As you read today, remember what this newsletter really stands for...
"One life. That's it. That's all we've got. It's not sad. This is happy. And, as we meet people, personally or professionally, loving and giving and presenting to them all that we are and have is really the highest meaning of life."
–The Man Behind The Curtain
The Neighbor In My Dream
As I was waking up this morning from my sleep, I grabbed on to the last fringes of a fading scene, which went something like this.
It was a blue sky and I seemed to be in the middle of nowhere. A man was standing near me, speaking, and making an observation. He said,
"...they were always neighbors..."
He said my wife was upstairs tending to a little girl and the father of the girl was suddenly standing beside me.
It was all so abstract and couldn't all be possible. But in a dream, we tend to believe everything we hear and see and feel which makes everything seem true.
The man continued and said something I haven't been able to get out of my mind since.
"And, wherever they go they are always neighbors."
Always neighbors...no matter where they go?
That made no sense...
...until it did.
This echoed in my mind as I meditated in bed for a moment before getting ready for my day.
I thought about this newsletter, today's issue, and the experiences I'm about to share with you, all of this I wrapped up into one big collective.
Thus begins, the journey through it.
A Salt Lake City Triple - A Summary
Plainly stated, I'm part of a company that is young, a Start Up called Krisis.AI
Naturally, creating relationships for more reasons than you can count on your right hand fingers and thumbs is...so very key. (You follow me...?)
My CEO and I (Chief Creative Officer), aligned our schedules and took a trip to Salt Lake City, Utah to attend three networking events.
Day 1 - Event 1: My mindset, "Who can I meet that has what I need? I'm looking for connections. Who looks like they would have what I'm looking for? Let's introduce myself to them first." I met many people, including Fiona. But, I don't remember much about what people said, let alone needed.
I failed the test here on the first day...
“Being a good neighbor is all about caring about other people. Just like faith is also an action word, neighboring is all about actually doing something great within a shared relationship between two individuals.”
–The Man Behind The Curtain
Day 2-3 - Event 2: My mindset, "What kinds of questions can I ask to really get to know this person on a personal or high-level professional level? How can I connect, FIRST, before diving into more technical or deeper topics? What do they care about most?" I slept better that night knowing that I had done the best I could to change the dialogue. Details below about how this event went...which was awesome!!! (Check out this link for more info about the highlight of the week with the BMG "Brilliant Minds Group" events. My favorite!)
Day 4 - Event 3: My mindset, "I want to create lifelong connections by just building friendships. The energy will take care of itself and me and the other person will find or gain what we need, if anything, out of the conversation organically." Therefore, I wasn't worried. I just took the role of the "instant best friend" with love and interest. It just worked. (Event: Breakfast Palooza. Highly recommend.)
I walked away changed.
I walked away having expanded my friend network exponentially.
I walked away feeling compassionate and truly filled.
I had never experienced anything like this.
The Brilliant Minds Group Event
Would you believe that I felt like I was family with most everyone I met at this event?!
Here's how it went down.
We arrived at an elegant location in Draper. We sat at circular tables with six chairs at each table. We were assigned a group to sit with and changed three additional times...
...you know, to shake things up a bit.
It worked.
Everyone met almost everyone else, (maybe about 60 people).
We had an activity for each phase and simply went around the table to participate.
Listen, it sounds normal, cliché, like you've done this before, perhaps in school.
But, there's power in listening to each other.
Power in being vulnerable. (I got to share about having Bipolar for the past 19 years and how more people need to know how to deal with it, caregivers or family included.)
By the time the event was finished, it was all hugs.
It was all smiles.
It was all encouragement.
The community I was amidst knew that if they were their to give, they receive also.
I don't know...it seems like such a better way to live, don't you think.
I mean, I've been a "take, take, taker" for so long in many respects.
"Selfishness just isn't sustainable."
–The Man Behind The Curtain
It's a bridge with too many broken planks.
You can't get to the other side without a whole lot of danger and effort.
So, it worked...this approach that really just reflects the highest form of living, which exists in almost all religions and flourishing societies.
I'm changed and have so many more things to do to help my new friends.
I feel like I might have helped Fiona. This is what I'm aiming for.
Visit Brilliant Minds Group to check out why it's so magical.
(ATTENTION: BMG friends, here's a link to a previous issue that is all about Dave Williams and how Matt saved his life. It's called "Dave Was Dead...But Not If Matt Could Help It.)
Fiona And The Others
While I was talking with Fiona on that first night she mentioned her product, educational simulations.
I told her that I know the CEO of another simulation tech company and would try to connect the two of them if I could. She was excited as she knew that person and has been wanting to speak with them.
So, I reached out with and introduction email and a warm welcome quickly turned into an invitation from the other party to meet.
Also, I hope to generate some interest for Fiona's company by featuring her as the sponsor for this week's newsletter issue.
Thank you, Fiona!
Be sure to reach out to her organization, ViewPoint, if it's of interest.
And, so far, Fiona is the only one I've "made time" to provide value to in this way. Many more plans to do so, however, are on May's horizon.
In Closing: Yes, I'm Going To Reference The King Of Neighboring
Mr. "Fred" Rogers graced our lives during his T.V. show, "Mr. Roger's Neighborhood."
Do you remember? I sure do.
His show aired from 1968 to 2001, a 33 year span of time.
...which, shows us how true this principle really is, how profound his message really was.
"Won't you be my neighbor?" was his mantra of sorts.
"Although children’s 'outsides' may have changed a lot, their inner needs have remained very much the same."
–Fred Rogers (Mr. Rogers)
And I would say...er...the man behind the curtain would say:
"Aren't we all trying to do our best? Aren't we all precisely equal in value? Aren't we all worthy of the greatest amount of love and forgiveness?"
–The Man Behind The Curtain
Sure, when I was at the events this week, there may have been people I wanted to talk with more than others.
Sure, we need to protect ourselves from toxic individuals out there.
Sure there are bad actors out there.
But, remember, as we traverse through this crucible of life, we can recall that we are working with imperfect people who we are only interacting with at a finite point in time.
Each soul is special.
Each person was different and will yet be better in their future.
Everyone at these events were striving to maximize their situation and opportunities, trying to optimize the person they are into the person they want to become.
Go. To. Give.
You never know the wonders your world will begin to be filled with.
