What If...You Do You.

A simple phrase amid a noisy world.

June 13, 2024 | Issue #30 | Read Online

Dear readers,

The world is kind of a big noisy mess. It's loud. Pushy. In-your-face.

Life can get confusing.

One day you're so sure of direction X.

The next day, total 180 and you find yourself on your way to pursuing thing Y, or deliverable Z.

Ignoring the "BAD," (because you get what you focus on...)

...there's lots of GOOD, and there's a lot of GREAT.

Good advice. Great YouTube videos that have all the answers. Good ideas. Great results and proof.

Yes, it's too much. But, we're smart humans. We sift through it all.

But, it really comes down to what YOU believe. It comes down to what YOU want as part of YOUR life.

It's what works for YOU, and only YOU.

Today, let's explore how to assimilate some of these things we read, watch, and hear online into a cohesive model for action...

...so that YOUR success can become your best friend, not just the imaginary variety you might be used to.

Enjoy this week's edition.

To your continued growth and bright future.

Jeff's Ad. The Impetus.

Jeff Lerner is an entrepreneur, a digital product guy. Yesterday, I saw one of his YouTube ads. He had tried a bunch of things. Totally failed. Lost everything a few times.

Then, he tried digital products. And, everything changed for him.

But, here's the interested part of his YouTube ad. He drew on a big poster board sized paper, (I searched for the ad again to screen shot it but couldn't find it), and basically said:

"There's nothing wrong with learning from others with the intent to take a swing at implementing prosperity tactics. What IS wrong is assuming that a guy who made a fortune, and is selling his courses and books explaining his process...expecting that his process will work for you, when, you're a different person than that guy with different skills and aptitudes, a different personality, different limitations, and thresholds."

So, those are all my words not Jeff's. Bottom line though is that, you've kind of got to know YOU and YOUR situation.

And, that's what this week's installment is all about. I want to help shed some light on this subject in hopes that you draw a little closer to taking "calculated" action with less fear and more faith in yourself and your scenario.

YOUR Eggs. YOUR Basket.

Alright. So, first off, before diving into the 3 ideas I've got listed below, let's talk about wicker baskets and those oblong shaped things inside of them we call "eggs."

We hear "don't put all your eggs in one basket," right?!

Eggs are, let's say, streams of income, or...opportunities. Money, savings, a job. And, if you're smart, you might stock up for a rainy day, or...pick up some Uber hours in the evenings.

Or some individuals invest and have all kinds of lines tethered to their bank accounts.

I don't know. It's your call. It always is.

It's really hard to say what's right for you.

But, the principle deserves some consideration.

If you lost your job, could you get a job quickly?

Do you have savings?

What about some extra cash, which, (don't sit there and think no one has extra cash laying around.) That's a "lack" mentality and a fixed mindset. If you don't have "investible capital" today, just set it up in your mind that you someday will and it could be this year or even next month.

(Pardon me, little soap-box moment there.)

Okay, so, YOU just need to decide what you can handle, the risks of not having other options, savings, other streams of income.

What are you willing to sacrifice in terms of time, comfort, and change.

Remember, this is all YOU.

But, one thing you can't escape is responsibility...over your situation, family, over what you have, the time you're given, everything.

So, consider all of the outcomes, possibilities, could-happens, and would-works.

Do all you can to understand what's out there to safeguard and to increase.

Then, once you've found some methods, mentors, and mantras, use the following 3 ideas as a collective lens to trudge forward according to YOUR unique situation and human makeup.

1. Your Profile.

Know the YOU that you are...RIGHT NOW.

That's the key.

You've got to be real. You've really got to be honest with who you are, what you are, and what you are currently capable of.

Check out these ideas:

  • What are your Zones of Genius?
  • What skills can you absolutely bank on?
  • What experiences have you created and now can benefit from and produce value for others?
  • What are your beliefs, not religious beliefs, but your frame of reference when capitalizing on opportunities and making decisions?
  • What are your values?
  • What are your limitations?
  • What are you really good at?
  • Accomplishments? Accolades? Awards? Client results?

YOU'RE a certain type of personality that has a certain way of thinking, feeling and doing.

There are some things you could do for hours (energy renewing activities) and some you avoid at all costs (energy draining activities). We call these things your Zones of Genius.

You've got to know YOU first, or else, none of what I write next will reach it's fullest wonder.

In other words, whatever you learn, find on the web, or hear and consider, all of this has to be taken with a grain of salt until you apply it to your proper over-arching life context.

If this step is skipped...warning...disaster may be on the horizon. ;)

2. Your Perspective.

Meet Chris Do. Chris is the owner of "The Futur" organization. A designer. And a leader in helping people Rock Their Lives by doing extraordinary things in serving others and in business.

So, here's an example of Chris and his perspective.

Now, me, Josh here, I'm 43 years old. I've not reached the levels of success that I've intended as of yet.

Chris was 42 when he decided to start the long and steep climb to YouTube profitability, popularity, and sustainability.

Wait, does that say, 46 when he started Instagram?!

And, with a little math, it took him, roughly, a decade until he, as he states there, "Did it!"

It's never too late?!

But, this old and stale phrase, "...never too late..." may go in one ear and out the other. (Pardon my bluntness.)

(I hope you're not here to expect any sugar coating in anything I have to say...)

What that statement really says is that, it's about how you approach every situation.

If you approach the mountain wondering if you'll ever make it back home all in one piece...if you look at your body and wonder what ailment will show up next...if you find the next reason why NOT to try...which there always is a reason...then you'll get exactly what you expect.

And, if you are a growth minded thinker, that's exactly what you want, every time, the desired result that you've expected all along.

In line with our "learn much, execute carefully" context, how you think about the probability of what you learn actually working, that's half, if not most of the leverage that exists with whatever you've chosen to take council from.

Sorry, if that didn't make sense, here's the basic concept.

If you believe you're going to succeed, your chances are higher.

IS...THAT...NOT...INSANE??!!

Now, that's a happy thought you can sink your teeth into...and surely run with...each and every day from now on.

3. Your Plan.

In the context of creating success, financially, or otherwise, lets talk about where you are at right now...in regards to timing.

A couple of questions to ask yourself might be these:

  • How much time do I have to "rock" the new stream of income exploration?
  • Does this align with my goals?
  • Am I infringing on any other timelines of those whom are closest to me?
  • How much time during the day, the early morning, during lunch at work, after the kids are in bed, on the weekends?
  • Am I willing to disappear off the face of the earth for 3 months to emerge a better me with a grander scheme and more profitable use of my valuable time?

I'm sure there are other questions.

The bottom line is this: YOU DO YOU.

It's the situation you choose to live in that dictates what you might be available to take advantage of.

If you don't like your limitations, then, you can brainstorm over a bowl of rocky road ice cream and a pencil and paper. Then, see where else you can take that life road of yours.

Your timing is not their timing.

So, you've got to know where you stand and what your plans.

The Wrap Up

Life was designed for you to knock it out of the park.

Period.

Whatever that means for you...YOU be the one to define that sucker.

In the mean time, there's work to be done.

People to love.

New recipes to try.

And opportunities to make the most of.

Remember to define:

  • Your Profile
  • Your Perspective
  • Your Plan

This will make a whole lot easier to make it happen when it matters most.

The Way To Success Is Within These Words

  1. Fix in your mind the exact thing you want and desire.
  2. Determine exactly what you will give to get this thing.
  3. Establish a date when you intend to posses or achieve this thing.
  4. Design a picture of your life AFTER you've already achieved this thing and define in detail the feelings that you will feel. The more detailed the feelings, the quicker you'll obtain it.
  5. Create a definite plan for obtaining this thing and begin at once to execute this plan, even before you feel ready.
  6. Hand write or type out and print, a clear and concise statement of the thing you intend to acquire, name the time limit, state what you will give in return for this thing, write out your life after you've obtained it and all the feelings associated with that achievement, and describe the plan in detail that you will execute to obtain this thing.
  7. Read this written statement aloud every morning and every night. See and feel yourself already in possession of the thing that you desire.
